AEGEE-København

In November of 1984 a group of students in Paris headed by Frank Biancheri decided to organise the first General Meeting of students for Europe (États Généraux des Étudiants de l’Europe). In April 1985 more than 400 European students arranged the first meeting of EGEE (in 1987 it became AEGEE) under the auspices of the French President Francois Mitterrand. This first meeting of students resulted in the establishment of AEGEE.

The basic idea was acting for Europe and the creation of European consciousness as a requirement for the successful European unification, through organising European events to which members from all over Europe are invited. In that way AEGEE promotes European co-operation and integration among young people in the student world and creates broad and open-minded Europeans, who are aware of what Europe is, who are able to understand different cultures and mentalities, to understand the roots of the problems and to contribute to the positive future development of our continent.

AEGEE quickly expanded to new cities, and soon gained the support of the European Committee and the European Parliament. The second great meeting of AEGEE-Europe was held in München in April of 1986 with the subject - Students for Europe-, in which 600 students coming from different countries of E.F.C. participated.
